What is the Reparations and Climate Change Project?

The Climate Change and Human Rights: Responsibility and Reparations project, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) through the Partnership Engage program, is led by Professor Miriam Cohen, in collaboration with Professors Vladyslav Lanovoy (Université Laval) and Armando Rocha (Universidade Católica Portuguesa), as well as Maria Antonia Tigre, Director of Global Climate Change Litigation at the Sabin Center (Columbia Law School). This project is conducted in partnership with the Global Network for Human Rights and the Environment.

Justice and Climate Change

This research project analyzes decisions and advisory opinions issued by regional and international courts on climate change, shedding light on key issues related to state responsibility and reparations for climate-related damages.

The research team convened experts, scholars, and practitioners from diverse disciplines in a workshop in April 2025, aiming to share knowledge and build interdisciplinary networks on climate change and reparative justice.
